Good Reads

Here is another great book I just finished.  I enjoyed this one so much! Although it took me quite awhile to decide if I was in to it.  I told Clay I was going to give a 100 pages.  But even at page 100 I was moving at snail pace and wasn't really enjoying it.  If you read anything about this book it is only praise.  It was published in 1860 and said to be the first of its genre, sensational fiction.  So, I pressed on and I am so thankful I did! I remember thinking at page 157,  I like this! I am into the story! And man what a story.  I would tell Clay how it was progressing and we would both get goosebumps just from me retelling it.

If you are looking for a good long book to cozy up with on the couch with a hot cup of tea try this one.   I learned a good lesson from this book.  Be patient with a good story.  So often I want to get right into the story.  But I wonder how the people on 1860 viewed this.  We probably have different degrees and thoughts about entertainment.  I can visualize a mother or a servant taking a quick break from a chore to see what was going to happen next.  I know I felt like that.

On a side note here is a conversation I overheard between Athanasius and Eleanor not too long ago.

Eleanor (as she is getting herself and the boys a snack):  I am so glad you are not sick anymore.
Athanasius: Why?
Eleanor: Because you are not grumpy anymore.
Athanasius: Oh, I still a little grumpy.

I thought it was so cute!

  1. Hey! Brooke, your back .. I've been checking here for awhile and thought I'd check again. I hope all is good with the family, and you are taking care of yourself. I get a chance to talk to your Dad once and awhile, so he pretty much kepps me up with the growing Wright Clan. I'll keep checking back. Mike
