BACON + HAM

It happened...we got our piglets! Aren't they so sweet? I wish you could hear all the adorable little sounds they make. They are so cute I almost wish we didn't have to eat them...almost. The kids and I built the pen from free pallets and some t posts we found in our woods. Our spiritual father, Father Moses gave me the metal roofing I used for their shelter.  Clay and some of the kids picked them up after church on Sunday. Any time I woke in the night Saturday night I was worried about the piglets! ha! Will their shelter be warm enough? What if they die?? Was this is a good idea?? Oh Brooke...I spend much of my life dealing with fear, BUT, I'm trying.  I'm trying to have hope, be present, and try new things. That's all we can do, try and trust in Him.

The pigs are here, they have not died, they seem quite cozy in their shelter, and yes, raising your own food is a good idea.

I'm not sure why I only have pictures of mainly Boaz and Moses because ALL the kids love the piglets.  For one thing, the piglets are very hard to catch, they are fast!

We do have one night coming up that will be 18 degrees F and I plan on rigging up a heat lamp.  It was freezing yesterday and I went out there to find them huddled in the straw together, I covered them all the way with straw. If someone would have told me that this no pets inside girl (which by the way we only have a dog because I love my husband and kids so greatly, ha!) would be checking on piglets and covering them with straw, I probably wouldn't believe them.

I thank God for our little house on five acres, the animals we can raise, and all we can learn in the process.

  2. They are really adorable! How old are they? Our pigs are black. They were born last June I believe.
